Title or Location: Gracie
I find painting dogs very interesting because their appearance is so varied. This golden doodle is from a friend's photo of her pet Gracie. I painted a loose background in watercolours then painted negatively to pick out the wavey and curly areas of her coat. Gouache picked out some lighter areas. I find painting without a drawing creates a looser result. I start with the nose and measure from there.

Title or Location: Bamburgh Castle
A watercolour of one of Northumberland's iconic views. Bamburgh Castle is always a delight to see and paint. It has been a backdrop for many films. I liked this view from a northerly aspect painted with a wash of wet in wet colour blends in the foreground. Details were painted in when dry. Inspired by M Coils.

Title or Location: Grapevine
I used a loose wash to create a background . When this was dry I used negatives painting to bring out the shapes of the petals and grapes. A subject like this allows the use of a selection of colour blends.

Title or Location: Onwards and upwards
As our planned hike up Mt Cook in New Zealand was impossible due to poor weather, my wife replaced Mt Cook with Roy?s Peak, near Wanaka a day later. So on a beautiful January morning we dragged? our teenage daughters up this steep mountain for 4 hours surrounded by stunning views. I wanted to mark their achievement and resilience as both found the climb a challenge.
